BENT is a furniture project by Benson Wink. It began with a simple idea: a useful thing does not have to be a perfect thing. BENT is less concerned with mastery than with what furniture has always been asked to do: hold something, give shape and place to a room, offer a place to sit, set belongings down, keep something close. Form and proportion matter, but not as abstractions. The six designs (SHELF, BENCH, TABLE, DESK, BASE, STORAGE) are made without a proper shop, the proper training, or the proper tools. They are shaped instead by what is at hand: the material available, the tools within reach, the purpose of the object, the particular needs of the space. The results may be a little BENT.
